The Holy Cross Church

The Holy Cross Church has been built in 7 years according to the project of A. Bannikov and Protoireus A. Yurevich. This is a huge church of 67 meters high and it locates near the river Yenisey.

Its 13 gilded domes can be seen afar. Cathedral’s bell tower has 11 bells (their weight differs from 8 kg to 4,6 tons) and it is situated under the main dome. According to ancient Moscow traditions, the bell tower is crowned with a tented roof. 5 hectares cedar park surrounds the cathedral.

The cathedral stands on a high pedestal. Inside this pedestal there are fontal hall, museum, cathedral services and fraters. Inside the church visitors can learn the whole history of icon painting in Russia from the very beginning to revolutionary times: 84 icons of six-tier central iconostasis and wooden carving were made by father Alexey Shumilov’s icon workshop in the manner of Andrey Rublev.

Iconostases of the Northern and South aisles were created by icon painters and carvers from Vladimir Baranov’s workshop in Byzantine and Russian modern manners.

In the churches’ parish there are more than 13 families with 5 and more kids in each, including the families of priests and deacons. There is an Orthodox gymnasium for children, sisterhood of mercy, museum of modern Christian art, cathedral museum, publishing center “The cross” and summer camp “skete”. There is a small nursery for kids to stay while their parents are at the church service.
