Tavdinskie Caves

Well-known Tavdinskie Caves are located on the left bank of the Katun River. Here there are more than 30 caves with the total length about 5 km.
For a period of many years the caves attracted speleologists and researches’ attention. In some of them interesting items of archeological value were found, for instance, articles of pottery, fishing tackle and even things referring to the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. All these facts testify to the effect that ancient people lived in the caves. What is more, some specialists believe, that there was a sanctuary in Tavdinskaya Cave.
This place was chosen by tourists for visiting long ago. The most attended cave is the Great Tavdinskaya one - sometimes it’s called “Damsel’s tears”. There is a spacious tunnel going gradually up with spiral gallery in the end.
One of the places of interest in the cave is Tavdinskaya Karstic Arch. Thanks to its unique and intricate shape it became a monument of nature in 1996.
Kamyshlinsky Waterfall

The Kamyshlinsky Waterfall is located on the left bank of the Katun River.
It’s not very high – about 12 m, but quite spectacular.
It can be imaginary divided into 3 parts. The upper part of the river is quite calm and the lower is characterized by a number of cascades, so that you can see crystal splashes around.
It is considered to be one of the most popular and accessible places of interests in the region.
Ulalinskaya Paleolithic site

Ulalinskaya Paleolithic site is one of the main sights in Gorno-Altaisk. It is situated on the bank of the Ulalushka River, after which the site took its name.
The site constantly attracts attention of archeologists. It was found during the excavations of 1960-1970s under the guidance of academician Okladnikov. Exactly that time more than 600 stone tools were found, referring to the age of Paleolith. It proves the fact that the territory was made habitable more than 1,5 million years ago.
This sensational archeological find became the city’s pride. No wonder that exactly these tools are depicted in the coat of arms since 1996.
