Pokrovskaya church

Pokrovskaya church or Pokrovsky cathedral is the main orthodox church in Krasnoyarsk. It is not only the pearl of architectural inheritance, but also the witness of the city's history, the monument of thought and craft.

Pokrovskaya church was founded in 1785.Then it was closed before the war, opened again in 1943 and later closed in 1962.

Some time ago there was an exhibition hall in the church. The surrounding territory was covered by litter. In 1978 the church was restored. It was painted red with green roof and domes. Its territory was also cleaned from litter. That's hoe the church looked like for the past 25 years.

The most ancient Krasnoyarsk temple is a one storey church where an altar, a temple, a refectory and a bell tower are situated on one axis.

The architectural style of the church can be called "Siberian" baroque.  A cast-iron temple fence is a bright example of decorative forging.
