The railway bridge

This railway bridge is the most unique railway bridge over Yenisei river (distance between bearings - 140 m). It seemed to be impossible for the constructors of the Transsiberian railway to manage with a powerful river. But the project of a Moscow professor Lavr Proskuryakov and organizing ability of Knorre engineer successfully solved this problem.

On the 28th of March in 1899 the first passenger train crossed the river. In 1900 the bridge was awarded by a gold medal and Grand Prix on the international exhibition in Paris for its originality and grandiosity. Later UNESCO scientists called this railway bridge "the height of human engineering thought". It is included in "The atlas of world wonders. The outstanding architectural constructions and monument of all people" alongside with the Kremlin and Petrodvorets (1991).

The bridge is a real monument for constructors of the Transsiberian railway and is the main part of the way.

At the beginning of the 21st century the bridge was considered to be invalid according to 4 technical checks. In 2002 this unique construction was disassembled and changed for the new railway bridge.
