Abakan river

Abakan river is a left tributary of the Yenisei river. It flows on the territory of Khakasia and Krasnoyarsk region. The length of the river is 514 km. The basin's area - 32 000 square kilometers. Abakan is made up of two rivers - Big Abakan and Small Abakan and flows into Krasnoyarsk water basin. The upper stream flows in a narrow valley near the village Big Monok and the low stream flows on the territory of Minusinsk basin, where the channel is divided into branches. Abakan city is situated in the place where the river joins Yenisei.

Abakan river is used for irrigation and timber rafting.

Abakan river is also famous for a traditional Siberian fishing and old believers' villages. It attracts a lot of tourists.
