Altayskaya Princess

In summer 1993, when the scientists from Novosibirsk started the excavations of a burial mound, nobody could believe that they would find something worthy. The information about Altai Princess or the Princess of Ukok suddenly became a sensation.

At the bottom of the burial mound a funeral chamber was found. In that chamber there was ice, which preserved the burial place of the noble woman for ages. There were also items of interment in it, such as silver mirror, wooden vessels, horns and different statuettes of animals. She was wearing gold ear-rings and the hand of the dead princess was covered with pearls.

Also some tattoos preserved on her body very well.

It’s rather interesting fact, that together with her a group of six red horses was burred. According to Chinese mythology, such horses were considered to be spirits which could take the soul to heaven. Besides, a larch stick in her hands was found – it was an important part of rite and it was believed to be means of the creation of the world and was put only in the hands of divine beings.

That burial mound became an important event in archeological world, which threw light on some mysterious facts of history.
