Grebenshchikov Georgy Dmitrievich

Grebenshchikov Georgy Dmitrievich (1883 – 1964), a Russian writer, an honorable Doctor of philosophy, a professor of Literature, an honorable member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts in Spain and Mexico and a possessor of a great number of awards from different countries in the sphere of literature.

From 1912 – 1913 he was an editor of the local newspaper “Life of Altai”. He is an author of several historical and ethnographical feature stories, among which you can find “The Uba River and the Ubian people” (1912), “Ancient Russia of the Altai”, “Letters to friends”, two tomes of collected stories “ In the scope of Siberia” (1912-1913), narratives “The Khanate of Batyrbek” (1913). He didn’t accept the idea of the October revolution; as a result he left the country in autumn of 1920. Later in 1924 Grebenshchikov moved to the USA, Connecticut, where he bought a piece of land from the son of Leo Tolstoy – Ilya and established a settlement Churaevka.

Together with N.K. Rerikh created a publishing house “Atlas”, where seven novels appeared, among them - “Churaevs”, “Bylina about Mikula Buyanovich” and others.
