Hajyrakan mountain

Hajyrakan mountain is a sacred mountain. It is situated 105 km far from Kyzyl city, on the left bank of the river Ulug-Khem. The name of the mountain was taken from the Mongolian language. The meaning is "a sky bear" or "a sacred mountain". There are several Hajyrakans in Tuva. One of them is situated near the river Tes-Khem, another - on the right bank of the river Erzin. But the most famous is this Hajyrakan - situated on the left bank of the Upper Yenisei. The height of the mountain is almost 500m. Its high grey rocks attract the eye. Old people can tell many mystique legends about this mountain.

Local people believe that this place possesses great healing power. This mountain is a sacred Buddhist place. The Tuvinians pray to Buddha here and take a piece of a sacred ground with them.

The mountain was consecrated by Dalai-Lama XIV on the 21st of September in 1992. A small monument was built here to commemorate this event.
