Karakolskie Lakes are presented by seven lakes, situated in the upper reaches of the Karakol River in sub-alpine part of the mountain range Iolgo. The lowest lake is located at a height 1820 m above the sea level, and the highest at 2097 m. The maximal death is 10 m.  The lower lake is surrounded by mountain cedar pine forest, which upper makes its way to alpine meadows and as for the surroundings of the highest lakes, flora and fauna of high-altitude tundra are typical fot these places.

Karakolskie Lakes are situated at a distance of 300-800 m from each other and are connected with streams. Water in the lakes is cold and crystal-clean, there are practically no plants in them as well as fish.

Karakolskie Lakes can be referred to the group of lakes, which are visited more often by tourists. You can find there a campsite “Karakolskie Lakes”, which can provide you with accommodation in wooden summer cottages.

It takes 5 hours to watch all the lakes. You’ll see ice and snow setting near the 6^th lake even in summer. Walking tours usually start from the campsite “Katun” and horse-tours from “Environment”. The distance from Barnaul is 330 km.
