Experts say: Lake Vivi region is like a country, a world of water:  flat table mountains, scraggy polar crooked trees, endless tundra fields, fearless birds, animals and fish. In summer day lasts for 24 hours, in winter there is a polar night. Bear’s trail can be seen much more often than the human’s footprints, the murmur of waterfalls and rifts sounds more realistic than the roar of helicopter which rarely comes here to deliver few tourists or fishermen.
Sometimes people call Lake Vivi a “Baikal of Evenkia”. That is the largest fresh lake in this district – it has a length of 90km and width of 4km and unique fish species diversity. Here a skillful fisherman can hook a grayling which is as black as char and has bright red flaglike fin, a huge loach of 8kg, the most delicious vendace and a number one fish – a taimen of 50kg.

Evenkia’s resources are extremely rich but yet not unlimited. That is why it’s expected to announce Lake Vivi’s water area, as well as Vivi River and the adjacent territories as specially protected native zone with a limited regime of natural resource use. Also it is projected to reconcile activities which can be harmful to the nature: wooded lands clearance, extraction of timber, building, hunting and fishery.
At the bank of Lake Vivi there is a centre of our immense country, a spot which unites the whole Russia, a magic place of power. At the weald from which the view of the lake is the most picturesque, on 21st of August 1992 sports-scientific expedition from Moscow Center of Russian Geographical Society named after I. Papanin led by N. Tarasov and blessed by Patriarch Alexy of Moscow erected a 7metres high monument with a two-headed eagle on top. 4 meters long gild leaves of obelisk have coordinates of geographical location of Russia’s centre inscribed on top of them: 66°25'N 94°15'E. This point was determined by academician Bakut in 1992 who applied his own unique formula. This formula was officially accepted and approved by Federal Service of Geodesy and Cartography.

The idea of creating a new monument named “The golden flower of Russia” and erected according to the project of Alexander Zhadan has a long and complicated history: since 1974 careless bureaucrats have been rejecting this idea and have been persecuting those who tried to raise this question.  Only in 1983 in the year of D. Mendeleev’s 150 birthday anniversary, the expedition managed to get the permission to establish a monument marking the centre of Russia. A silver column has been manufactured with a small gild boat on top - a copy of the boat from the top of Admiralty spire in Saint-Petersburg.

Lake Vivi is not only the centre of Russian Federation, but also is a symbol of Krasnoyarsk krai, Evenkia and Taymyr unification. On 23 of September 2003 in honor of the meeting of 3 governors at the lakeside,  3 bottles of Armenian cognac with portraits of governors on the labels were dug into the ground near the monument to symbolize strong Siberian friendship between Krasnoyarsk, Dudinka and Tura.

Not  far from the column there is another monument  - a wooden chapel of Sergius the Radonezh which is 11 meters high and designed by local architect Sergey Salatkin (in 1992 which is according to UNESCO resolutions is a year of Sergius Radonezh memoriam  a big 8-pointed cross was erected at the spot of future chapel). Both monuments represent a magnificent architectural ensemble.

Nobody lives on Lake Vivi banks because this land is too severe and wild. Some time ago the only person who lived there was a fisherman Anatoly Denisenko, he has never even been to Tura. He came to Evenkia 12 years ago with geological exploratory expedition, settled at the lakeside and became a kind of local sight – he was meeting the pilots in his hut, serving fish and meat, taking care of the monument and he was pretty happy that there was no one around.

Everyone can find something interesting and personal at Lake Vivi, but the most important is that every person who comes here can feel the warmth spreading inside him while sitting at the evening bonfire, looking at the tongues of flame and it seems that the soul becomes much softer here, outside the big city.
