Patmos Island is located on the bank of the Katun River on the edge of Chemal village. You can reach the Island along the suspended bridge. The Island took its name after the isle of the same name in Greece, which is famous by the fact that the apostle St. John the Divine prayed there. The Ireland was sanctified in 1855. The first cathedral of St. John the Divine was built in 1849, but not on the Island. In 90s it was destroyed by Soviet government. Only in 1915 this cathedral was moved to the Patmos Island. Today it’s a skit (community of Old Believers) for women. It’s available for everybody. Having set your foot on land, you can watch the icon with biblical plot, which is installed in a rocky mountain.
