The coat of arms in Krasnoyarsk will be supplemented with extra supporters, which are figures usually placed on the sides of the arms and depicted holding the shield up. A new project of the coat of arms was presented on 20 May. Officials decided to make an extended variant of the arms due to extra decorations which indicate a high status of the city. They are connected with particular legislative, historical, cultural and economic background of the city. According to Russian legislation, having the coat of arms with supporters is allowed in five cases, in particular, when a municipal body is a centre of a federal subject in Russia.

In the capacity of the supporters were chosen a unicorn and a horse. But this variant of the arms will be found only in the cabinets of the first officials of the city and on souvenirs.

Since 1644 a unicorn was depicted on the seals of Krasnoyarsk and was a symbol of a city, while a horse was taken from the official arms of the city, when it was joined to Tomsk guberniya (province) in 1804 and is a symbol of Siberian expanses, power and courage. 

There are also some plants in the arms and a ribbon symbolizing an order of the October Revolution.

The updated coat of arms will be presented on City Day.
