Abakan launched the largest in Siberia solar power plant.

25.12.2015

December, 21 the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev gave the signal by teleconference from Moscow to launch the new solar power plant located in Abakan.

Installed capacity of Abakan solar power plant - 5.2 megawatt and annual electricity production - 6.5 mln. KWh. The plant has more than 20,000 solar modules, and an area of 18 hectares.

The average number of sunny days in Abakan exceeds 310, which allows to use this potential in the best way, providing approximately 1/30 of the electricity needs of the city by environmentally friendly renewable energy. For the same amount of energy in a coal thermal power station would have to be burned about 3.5 million tons of coal each year, which would create a greenhouse gas emissions in excess of 8000 tons.

The project of Abakan Solar Power Plant was recognized as one of the winners of investment projects based on renewable energy, which is conducted by the Ministry of Energy of Russia in 2013. The project started in late 2013.

"The development of renewable energy is one of the strategic priorities in the company "EvroSibEnergo". Almost half a century ago, hydropower stations: Irkutsk, Bratsk and Krasnoyarsk - became pioneers of clean energy in Siberia, and today we continue this trend, using the most modern methods of obtaining energy. We are sure that the future of energy in Siberia must be based on environmentally friendly technology", the general director of "EvroSibEnergo" Vyacheslav Solomin says.
