“Atlas of Tibetan medicine” is a collection of illustrations to the main book of Tibetan medicine – treatise of XVII century “Tzhud-shi”. This picturesque Atlas is called “Vaiduria-onbo”, that means “Blue beryl”
The author of the idea is regent V of Dalai-Lama, a prominent politician and scientist of his time Desrid Sanchzhay Chzhamso (1653 – 1705). In this unique Atlas there are descriptions of the subject, theory, the basis of clinical medicine (acupuncture, infectious diseases, pediatrics, gynecology and others), methods of healing and information about the appearance and training of a genuine doctor.
The Atlas of Tibetan medicine from the collection of the History Museum of Buryatia was brought there at the end of XIX century by Shirab Sunuev from the Tibetan cloister, where medicine faculty existed. In 1926 the Atlas was given to Atsagatsky Datsan of Buryatia, where a medicine school was created.
