In the area of the mud volcano ‘Saint Petersburg’ the deep-sea submersibles ‘Mir 1’ and ’Mir 2’ have spotted a new form of organic compounds, that can’t be identified by scientists yet, the press agency of The Fund of Contribution to Protecting Lake Baikal reports.

The Fund informs that specialists of Limnological Institute of RAS were studying biological objects in gas-hydrate when they stumbled across ‘strange ball-like formations whose nature is still unknown’. By all appearances, they are some new, never met before forms of organic compounds.

Scientists are going to collect the samples and study gas-hydrates and life-forms associated with them.
