Saint Troitsky Cathedral in Sharypovo

Saint Troitsk cathedral in Sharypovo town is the temple which was built with observance of the temple architecture of the XVI century. The cathedral height is about 47 meters. More than one thousand parishioners can be received in the cathedral. The cathedral walls, cupolas, arches are painted on a sample of  the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The church is crowned with five cupolas: the central one is the biggest, which represents the Jesus Christ, other four cupolas are smaller and symbolize four evangelists. Each dome is crowned with a cross. The temple building is crowned with the dome which symbolizes the Kingdom of Heaven.

The temple has seven bells. The smallest bell weight is about one pood (16 kg), the biggest bell weight is about18 poods. The bells were placed and sounded for the first time on April 9, 1996.

Winter fountain

The only winter fountain of the Krasnoyarsk Region you can see in Sharypovo.

This wonderful fountain is placed in the nonfreezing water area of the reservoir of

 Beryozovsky State District Power Plant. The exotic construction is one of the symbols of the town, the same as the 370 meters pipe in of the Beryozovsky State District Power Plant and Saint Troitsk cathedral.

Saint Pantaleon spring

The Bolshoye (Big) Lake is flowing with limpid clear water. Some small streams and springs flow into it. One of the springs received glory because of its medical properties and after consecration in 1863 it was called as Saint Pantaleon spring.

On August 9, 2004 this spring was restored by efforts of the Bolsheozersky school local historians. The cross, which disappeared  at the end of the war, was placed back near the spring head.

The name of the spring came from the incident which happened with the blind from birth girl. According to the local legends, she washed her face in the spring in the Saint Pantaleon day, on August 9 and suddenly she recovered sight again. Since the locals revere the water wonder qualities, and use it for treatment of different diseases. During a drought period old men take water from the spring and spray the crops, going round fields with a prayer.

Sharypovo archaeological monuments

Archaeological mecca of the Sharypovsky district includes 276 objects of the archaeological heritage, which are under the government protection and consisted of more than one thousand barrows, ancient settlements, defensive fortresses and rock petroglyphs.

The largest in Krasnoyarsk Region location of dinosaurs remains was found in the Sharypovsky district. There were about 20 paleontological locations with flora and fauna of the Cambrian, Devonian, Carbonic, Jurassic, Cretaceous and Pleistocene periods. The bone remains of fishes, tortoises, dinosaurs, crocodiles were found near the villages Orak, Temra, Lesnoye, Dubinino, the age of the remains is about 146 million years. It is one of the largest remains locations of the ancient fauna in Russia. Nowadays the local schools pupils organize searches the giants remains of the past centuries.

Petroglyphs, rock drawings are the manifestations of the ancient person spiritual culture, they were the worship object throughout long historical time. The petroglyphs cult is one of the most widespread among the people of Siberia and is known from the Stone Age. It is connected with the hunting fishing magic, reproduction and partial magic.

The petroglyph "Orak" shows us "handwriting" of people of the Iron Age and the Middle Ages. You can find it, moving on the northwest from the village Orak, to the Kedrovy Mountain. A.V.Adrianov was the discoverer of this petroglyph in 1909.  He found the rock drawings which represented 62 figures: deer, goats, people, coppers, hunting scenes and other signs. Some drawings reflect the development features of a space cult, in particular the sun. Nowadays the sight is tremendous: the drawings are marked by the dots, which show the people life which lived 3 thousand years ago. A famous «scene of torment » makes a great impression the wolf seizes the deer`s neckas a symbol of the fight between good and evil, old and new. Researchers still find petroglyphs, more impressive of which are 20 groups of petroglyphs were found in the valley of the Lesser Lake on the rock of the Karatag Mountains in 1999.


There is the unique archaeological object Cedar Mountain opposite the same valuable Red Mountain where about 44 burials of the Andronian culture were found by Sosnovsky in 1925-1928. Judging by the found objects one may say the Andronian culture ancient men wore long leather coats, women wore hats with earphones from a woolen, wattled band in a fir-tree, the sewed spiral, and children wore the boots decorated with the sable tusks. Adrorian people rode by chariots and believed in afterlife. Sosnovsky also found 18 graves of the Karasuk culture near the Orak village. The remains of the Tashtyk culture were also found in Orak.
