Surrounded by picturesque taiga, Lesosibirsk stretched on 20 km along the Yenisei river bank (260-280 km to the North from Krasnoyarsk) and it consists from separate residential areas, clustered around big industrial undertakings.

Lesosibirsk is a big river, vehicular, railway hub of Krasnoyarsk krai. Lesosibirsk river port is the youngest and the most modern and the second by its capacity on Yenisei river. Having combined worker’s settlements Strelka, Maklakovo, Podtesovo and Energoles, the city gained a quay of 100 kilometers long! Passenger and cargo ships as well as high-speed vessels “Raketa” and “Voskhod” land at Lesosibirsk piers.  The city has no more than 1 km in width and the main street (which is also a part of a Krasnoyarsk – Yeniseisk highway) is 30 km long.

Traffic flows through the city from Krasnoyarsk to Yeniseisk, North-Yeniseisk and Turukhansk regions. Transportation capacities of the city are complemented with Achinsk – Lesosibirsk railway (274), which helps to deliver cargo to the North of the Yeniseisk region.

Modern name of the city describes its location and the main activities of local people (the base “les” in Russian means “forest”, “sibir” refers to Siberia), in 1640 the name of this city was Maklakov Lug.

In 1915 – 1917 in district center Maklakovo there was a small sawmill. After the Great Patriotic War new big sawmills were constructed to process Angara pines and then export it as industrial wood. Novomaklakovo and Novoyeniseisk villages were founded. 60th of the twentieth century for future Lesosibirsk (Maklakovo) became years of rapid development. 2 more big sawmills as well as one resin industry undertaking was constructed near the first Maklakovo sawmill. Krasnoyarsk Hydro Electric Power Station administration decided to build a Mast Steeping Factory to produce details for electricity pylons. In 1975 Maklakovo and Novomaklakovo combined into Lesosibirks. In 1989 Novoyeniseisk was included in this cluster.

Lesosibirsk is the only place in Krasnoyarsk krai where hardboards are produced. Main manufacturing sectors are wood processing, milling, forest chemical industry. Lesosibirsk is a main exporter of timber in Krasnoyarsk krai. Industry perspectives for Lesosibirsk are connected with deeper milling, in particular, with construction of a new pulp-and-paper mill and hydrolyze-zymic (biochemical) factory. But now the problem of utilization of milling undertakings waste still has not been sold.

During the voyage on the Yenisei River travelers can stay for a while in Lesosibirsk. In Lesosibirsk Forest Museum visitors can see unique exhibits, for example saw cuts of 150-years old pines and cedars, interesting printed publications devoted to Lesosibirsk are also available there.

In Lesosibirsk showroom visitors can see the works of the “Yenisei” People’s Artists Association. The guests of the city also can enjoy the beauty of the Holy Cross Church at Gorkogo street, have a rest in the cedar park, which surrounds the church.

In Lesosibirsk surroundings, 2 km away from Yniseisk tract there is a small lake Baikal whish is a namesake of the legendary lake. One of the scientific assumptions says, that the lake (its diameter is about 200 meters) appeared after the crash of Tunguska meteorite. Local people say this is a mysterious lake, some people are even afraid of it. Despite this, in summer hundreds of Lesosibirsk citizens come hear to swim and play. This lake is a real natural monument.
