The Novosibirsk Drama theatre

The date of the theatre’s foundation is considered to be 20 May of 1988 when at the stage of Novosibirsk Actors’ House a performance “the evening of French comedy” with the one acted plays of modern French dramatists was made. During all its existence the theatre moved from one stage to another and had a variety of names that reflect 20 years’ theatre history.

The Novosibirsk Drama theatre shows a unique example of author’s theatre, the founder and creative director of which during whole theatre’s existence is Sergey Afanasyev. Many times he was awarded “The best writer of a season” in the Paradis contest. In his homeland he is usually called as the best Siberian, and abroad as “pure Russian stage producer”. His personality combines such qualities as devotion to Russian theatre traditions and innovation in reading and performance of classic and modern works. That leads to a greater result – all the performances sound urgent in unison with present time. The creativity of the theatre is noticeable not only in Russia but also in other countries. Theatre’s plays win in regional, national and international festivals.

Puppet show

Contemporary small size of the theatre is added to amazingly extant building of the former town college. The college building is made in modern style preserved its original aspect and one of the earliest works of A. Kryatchkov. In 1999 the additional part was attached to the eastern facade where the puppet show moved to.

A. Mihailov has projected the theatre and I. Elchenko made pictures of the stained glasses. The motif of the main façade is in the form of 3 tilting dolls and is referred to national toy, skomorokh performances, Russian balagan and fairytale. The theatre has a puppet show, cafe, fairytales’ room and playing room.

The theatre "Krasny fakel"

The theatre’s building was made according to the project of A. Kryachkov in 1911-1914 for a Merchants’ club. The Merchants’ club was a common custom of that time where merchants, bankers and wealthy people gathered for meetings, banquets, recreation and for viewing the visiting actors’ performances. The place was chosen aside from the main apartment block area in the natural grove then made into garden. The club was one of the first public buildings with the stage and auditorium made with the use of classic architecture where according to author’s project the features of town’s representative building with features of cottage. In 1917 the building got the name “Dom revolutsii”. Later it changed to “Dvorets rabochih.” Since 1922 the Siberian State Theatre of Musical Drama was placed there. Since autumn of 1932 the theatre “Krasny fakel” founded in 1920 in Odessa moved there.

In 1995 at the theatre’s stage Oleg Rybkin (the main producer since 1997 till 2002) made his debut in performance “Time and the room”. That was the beginning of a new theatre’s period - a time of a bold artistic searches, bright stage impersonations and opening of new dramatic works. Many performances created by Oleg Rybkin were awarded various prizes, three of them – “Zoikina Kvartira” (1998), “Ivonna, princess of Bourgogne ”(1999), “Three sisters” (2001) were nominated for a National theatre award “Golden Mask”. At the second half of 90s the theatre with performances of Oleg Rybkin took part in 5 European festivals. In 2001 “Krasny fakel” instituted and hold its first festival “Sibirsky transit”. The award for the best actor’s play of Vera Pavlovna Pedlih at the “Sibirsky transit” is to hold artistic heritage of Siberian theatres in remembrance and to support its’ greatest traditions in regional theatres.

Today “Krasny fakel” has the best examples of both classical and experimental world drama works in its repertoire. Almost every year the theatre offers unique  projects or all Russian premieres of performances.

Opera house

The Opera house is one of the main sights and city’s architectural symbol and the most important Siberian theatre. The building of Opera house is architectural and historical monument and the biggest theatre building in Russia. It’s total area is 11837, 8  cubic km, volume – 2943400 cubic meters – bigger than the Bolshoi Theatre. That’s why it is called Siberian Coliseum. Originally its construction was planned as a Science and Culture House where festive celebrations providing the opportunity of marcher’s columns, tractors and cars to go on the stage. The idea was of the theatre where transforming elements of the inner space gave much more freedom for directors to create a stage behavior. The grandstands were supposed to move within the hall with the help of special devices. For water pantomime performances there supposed to be a big reservoir for a swimming pool under the parterre. Round auditorium could be used as theatrical, circus or planetarium.

The Novosibirsk academic youth theatre "Globus"

This is one of the oldest Novosibirsk’s theatres founded in 1930. A group of theatre personalities from Leningrad headed by N.N. Mokshanov and N.F. Mikhaylov laid the foundation for the theatre.

The main idea is to be opened to the world’s art practices of all countries and centuries, invitation artists of different trends and schools, variety of theatre genres, multistyle methods of performance realization. The theatre’s artistic credo is existence of intellectual theatre on basis of modern dramaturgy and world classics and also bright musical- plastic shows in repertoire. One of the most important tendencies in the theatre was organization of two new studios – plastics and vocalism. With the participation of the studios during the last years there were created performances of a new synthetical aspect -where the words, music, movements are of esthetic novelty and of unconventional repertoire reading. The theatre was on tour in many Russian cities, also in foreign countries as the USA, Sweden, France.

The theatre has original building that is stylized into a sailing craft built in 1987. Up to 1993 it was named as theatre for young audience.
