How to get

North-Chuysky range is a mountain range in Kosh-Agach district of the Altai Republic.

When it seems that there is nothing more beautiful in the whole Altai than Chuysky tract, the road becomes even more picturesque. Right from the road, in the distance you can see snow-capped mountain peaks, and below them the endless Kurai steppe, but it still has its end, and that's the mountains. There are a few cars on the road. In front of North-Chuysky rangre, at any time of the year you make excellent, impressive pictures.

North-Chuysky range extends from the north-west to south-east for 120 km. The highest point is the mount Maashey-Bash (4173 m). The mount is severe in appearance and difficult to climb, but very beautiful. You can enjoy picturesque views to the mount  from the pass Low-Shavla (3100 m asl, 1B difficulty grade). The average height of the range - 3500-3700 m.

Around North-Chuysky  range there are about 200 glaciers with a total area of about 175 square kilometers, the largest is Maashey one. In addition, there are many lakes, this is due to the glaciers’ activity in ancient times.

On the slopes at the altitude of 2200-2400 m there is larch-cedar taiga, higher that - alpine meadows and tundra.

The nearest settlements are Chibit, Aktash, Kurai.

The climate is characterized by a big difference between night and day temperatures: in summer during the day it can be + 25C, but at night around 0 C. When traveling to the Altai even in the summer you should bring warm clothes, underwear, jacket, hat, gloves, warm socks, frost resistant sleeping bag, in daytime you need high-quality sunglasses (3 degree of protection) and sunscreen.

The most visited place in the area of North-Chuysky range is Aktru Valley. However, there are many other attractive places, such as Shavla lakes, Maashey valley - all of them are famous for their beauty and are considered to be one of the most beautiful areas of the Altai. In Aktru valley, 35 km from Kurai village the alpine camp Aktru is located (2,150 m), it’s the oldest campsite in the area, surrounded by pine forest. It’s a starting point for numerous alpine and hiking routes. Besides, there is a rescue service, small shop, pharmacy, banya, shower, dining room, cabins for accommodation, power supply, equipment rent service, instructor service.

Everyone is looking for and finding in the Altai something special for one’s own. And many people, having been here for the first time, said they had never seen such a miracle! And come back again and again to enjoy the clean air filled with the aroma of mountain herbs, to hear a lot of ringing songs of mountain streams.
