In Taimyr Regional Museum an exhibition “St. Petersburg – Taimyr – transit from ancient times” devoted to 80th anniversary of Taimyr was open. Its main exhibits became a mammoth baby called “Chyoli”, which was brought from Zoological Museum of St. Petersburg. The small mammoth was made according to English method of reproducing dead animals for a display.
While creating a sculpture, rock paintings of ancient painters from the West of Europe were taken to reproduce it. Also you can find bones and hair of mammoth, inhabiting the territory of Taimyr Peninsula as well as items made of tusk of mammoth. The exhibition will take place up to July, that’s why the mammoth will be taken to Norilsk first, and then to Krasnoyarsk. Only after that it will be sent back to St. Petersburg. It’s interesting, that the sculpture of mammoth has already been exhibited in Germany and Switzerland.
