The festival of the cucumber was held in Mariinsk (Kemerovo oblast) on July 29. Gardeners represented a lot of kinds of cucumbers - big and small, light and dark-green, fresh, salted and pickled.

The participants of the holiday learnt how cucumbers appeared in Russia, tasted different kinds and found out many interesting recipes. The culmination of the day was a cooking contest for the best salad. The winners got kitchen towels with a picture of the cucumber.

People plan to make this event a tradition.
