Every year the International Festival of Ethnic Music and Crafts Mir Sibiri is held in Shushenskoe village, Krasnoyarsk region. It became an integral part of the world cultural life for a great amount of people.

Since 2003 (ex-Sayan Ring festival) the Festival has become more popular not only among natives and Siberian music groups but also among people from every part of Russia and even foreigners. The number of spectators and groups-participants increases annually (more and more national music groups of different nationalities decide to take part in it to win ‘MIRA award).

The Festival obtains recognition from the State Duma of Russian federation (Cultural department) and Federal Agency of Russian Culture and Cinema.

In order to support the festival many singers and performers from all around the world took part in the festival, for exsample Geoffrey Oryema (France), Inna Zhelannaya (Russia), Puerto-Muerto (the USA), Yat-kha and Khuun-Khuur Tu (Tuva), Kalinov Most (Russia), Soundskill (Ireland), Ivan Kupala (Russia), Vershki da Koreshki (The Netherlands), KrasA (Russia), Propa Ghandl (the UK) and many others.

The Festival  gives everybody the unforgettable contact with the best samples of the world’s ethnic music and plunge in the atmosphere with rituals and master classes. The invariable credo of the festival is live sound of a very high quality of all performances.

The main peculiarity of the Festival is a harmonious union of different genres, directions and styles of art which turns somehow to Ethnics. The indispensable condition for every participant is qualified life sound on every performance. All this creates an atmosphere of mysterious ethnic action (kamlanie, rituals, master classes).

Every year any participant can take part in master classes, City of Masters, night discos, join an excursion to the most beautiful places and join many other events.

  • Day 1. 09.07.2020, Thursday
    Arrival to Abakan, capital city of the Khakassia Republic.
    Abakan city tour visiting the Siberian landscaping park Garden of the dream.
    Departure by a comfortable tourist bus to old Siberian town Minussinsk. During the excursion you will see Saviour Cathedral and aged merchant’s houses, will visit a local market where you can buy famous Minussinsk tomatoes. Excursion in the local Lore museum or museum of Russian Decembrists’.
    You will continue your bus tour.
    Arrival to Shushenskoye village. Accommodation in a choosen category: tents, flats of residents, hostels, guest houses or hotel.

    Day 2. 10.07.2020, Friday
    During the day excursions in the historical and ethnographic museum Shushenskoye, master classes and demonstrations on the arts and crafts for everyone.
    At 18:00 Official opening of the festival.
    From 21:00 to 02:00 concerts of honored guests of the festival - Russian and foreign stars of ethnic music.

    In the morning traditional folk ritual "Mow, the scythe!" and wellness practices.
    From 17:00 folk games, dances and songs
    From 18:00 the concert and contest of nominees for the award Ethnomusical Award MIRA.
    From 21:00 to 02:00 concerts of honored guests of the festival - Russian and foreign stars of ethnic music.

    Day 4. 12.07.2020, Sunday
    In the morning traditional folk ritual "gathering the dew" and wellness practices.
    During the day excursions in the historical and ethnographic museum Shushenskoye, work of festival sites (rituals, handicraftsmen, international cuisines).
    From 17:00 folk games, dances and songs
    From 18:00 the concert and contest of nominees for the award Ethnomusical Award MIRA.
    21:00-22:00 gala concert
    22:00-23:00 awarding ceremony and the closing of the Festival.
    From 23:00 to 02:00 concerts of honored guests of the festival - Russian and foreign stars of ethnic music.

    Day 5. 13.07.2020, Monday
    10:00 Meeting of the group in Shushenskoye, departure to Abakan.
    Excursion to the village Sizaya (the birthplace of the Olympic champion, freestyle wrestler Ivan Yarygin)
    and at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station (only outside view from the observation deck, no entrance is allowed).
    On the way visit the trout farm, where you can buy fresh fish.
    By 14:00 the end of the tour at the railway station Abakan.

    • Region

      Krasnoyarsk region is located in the eastern part of Siberia along the basin of the Yenisei river. It covers 3000 km from the South to the North, where it is washed  by Kara sea and Laptevs’ sea. The population of the region is about 3 million people.

      The region is subdivided into three climate zones: arctic, subarctic and mild.

      Krasnoyarsk region territory is the domain for 450 species of plants, 340 species of birds and 90 species of animals including snow leopard, Putorana bighorn sheep, snow fox, stoat and musk-ox. In region there are 6 nature reserves under state protection: Great Arctic, Central-Siberian, Putorana, Stolby (Rock pillars),Sayano-Shushensky and Taimyr reserves.

      The main religion here is Orthodox Church, but other confessions are also spread: Catholicism, Islam, Judaism etc.

      The capital of the region is Krasnoyarsk – megapolis situated on the both sides of the Yenisei river . It was founded by Russian military man Andrey Dubensky in 1628. The population of Krasnoyarsk is about 1 million people. Time difference with Moscow is +4 hours, distance to Moscow is 3995 km. There are many old buildings and places of interest here. Krasnoyarsk is the motherland of painter Surikov, geographist and scientist Potanin, singer Khvorostovsky, violinist Tretyakov, Olympic champion Yarygin, writer Astafiev.

      The symbol of Krasnoyarsk is Paraskeva Pyatnitsa chapel built in 1805 on Karaulnaya hill. It is printed on the 10-roubles banknote.

      Khakassia republic is located in South Siberia on the left side of the Yenisei basin. It occupies territory of 62 thousand sq.km. Its population is 535 thousand people. Time difference with Moscow is +4 hours.

      Khakassia is often called "a huge open-air museum". The history of Khakassia is very great, it counts not only the centuries but thousands of years. The first state of Din Linnes, who lived here in 7-3 centuries BC, left the remembrance about themselves in marvelous burial mounds, mystic rock paintings.

      Khakassia is famous for its huge lakes with healing water concentrating in Shira district. Many territories of the republic are devoted to the protected nature reserves, which are inhabited with rare species. Some of them like red wolf, snow leopard and argali are endangered and included into Red list of WWF.

      The administrative center of Khakassia is Abakan, a city with population of 160 thousand people. Sightseeing in Abakan: Khakassian national museum, Preobrazhensky cathedral, Lora stele, landscaping park Gardens of the Dream.

      How to get

      The tour starts in Abakan.

      There are direct flights Moscow-Abakan: Aeroflot air company (departure 23.40, arrival 08.10 +1, everyday) and S7 airlines (dep. 22.05, arr. 06.35 +1, everyday).

      Return flight: Aeroflot dep. 09.30, arr. 10.20, everyday, S7 flight dep. 07.40, arr. 08.40, everyday).

      Besides, to Abakan you can get from Moscow by train #067 via Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, from Krasnoyarsk by train #124.

      Meeting and seeing off

      The guide meets the group in Abakan on the 1 day from 6 am till 9 am, in the airport, railway station or bus terminal.

      The tour finishes on the 5 day by 2 pm in Abakan.

      Weather

      The climate in Khakassia is sharply continental: cold winter, hot summer, with significant variation of temperature and precipitation level. Summer duration in steppes is from the middle of May till the middle of September, in highlands – from the middle of June till the end of August. The hottest month is July (average temperature is 20 C). Sometimes there is “Indian summer” in the end of September.

      In June everything is in blossom as well, and every week you can various colors of nature. Stable weather is characteristic of this period of time.

      July is the hottest month, but sometimes there might rain for a week. The weather is stable and it's warm in the day time and at night. At the end of the month the steppe starts getting dry.

      Useful tips

      Travelling clothes must be comfortable. Please, take clothes you put on for walking and outdoor activities with you. Make sure you have taken a pair of light sports trainers, shirt with long sleeves and light trousers to protect your skin from spiny plants. Sunglasses, sun cream will be helpful to defend yourself from high sunburn activity. Also one should posses a hat or cap to avoid sunstroke, shorts, T-shirts, cloths and footwear of light colours.

      In case of overnight in tents, personal sleeping bag is necessary. 

      Accommodation

      Accommodation is not included in the tour price. The reason is that you can coose either to overnight in tents or in the hotel. Shushenskoye offers a simple hotel, students residence hall, residents' flat for rent or a camping place for tents. Please enquire our manangers after the price and availability.

      The guest houses in the Shushenskoye museum are fully booked for that period for festival's participants. 

      Meals

      Meals are not included in the tour price. In Shushenskoye there are cafes, supermarkerts, food stalls etc. 

      Mobile connection

      On the most part of the tour the cellular network coverage is available. Mobile phones operated by local operators (MTS, Beeline, Megafon, Tele2) are working alright. 

      Transportation

      Comfortable buses and minivans (for small groups) with air conditioner service in all the programs of the company. The transport service is provided only on 1 and 5 day.

      Ticks and mosquitoes

      In Shushenskoye there are many mosquitoes, but mostly in the evening, closer to the sunset. We recommend tourists to make sure their arms and legs are covered in twilight because mosquitoes are enlivened in the evening time.
