Part 1. Krasnoyarsk Territory

Day 1. Meeting Siberia

Arrival to Krasnoyarsk, check-in in the hotel.

Meeting the guide and starting the sightseeing tour.

Krasnoyarsk city tour to all significant sights, incl. Paraskeva Pyatnitsa chapel.
Excursion in the Ethnographical Museum.

Trip to Stolby national park (Central group of rocks).

Arrival to Krasnoyarsk. Group transfer to the hotel from the airport for arrivals from 06:00 to 08:30 and transfer from the railway station to the hotel from 06:00 to 08:30.

10:30 Meeting the guide in the hotel lobby, the sign “SAYAN RING”. This day there is a sightseeing including a visit to the symbol of Krasnoyarsk - the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa chapel situated on the Karaulnaya mountain and shown in the 10-ruble banknote. In the 17th century the Cossacks who founded the city built a watch tower on this mountain. You will pass the historical town part with its monuments of 18-19 centuries, the former mansions of Siberian merchants and patrons, you will see the monument to Krasnoyarsk founder Andrey Dubensky, the Theatre Square and much more.

We are going to visit the Ethnographical Museum which is considered to be among the best historical and ethnographical museums in Siberia. The museum was opened in 2001. It will provide an excellent prelude to your travel and your first impression of the Great Sayan Ring tour.

Lunch at the city restaurant.

After lunch, guests will take a walk along the taiga trails of the famous Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Park.

Day 2. Discovery day

Departure from Krasnoyarsk by a comfortable tourist bus or a car.

The road goes along the river Yenisei. Mixed forest gradually gives place to fields and boundless steppes.

During the day several stops and excursions: observation place Tsar-Ryba with the view on the Yenisei, Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, border between Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Khakassia Republic, Abakan city, Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station.

Arrival to Shushenskoye village. Getting to know the rural life of the 19th century.

Full day program

After early breakfast departure to the Siberian south. The group will travel to the South through the city of Divnogorsk. The road goes along one of the biggest dams in the world - the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric power station.

Arrival to Abakan, the capital of Khakassia republic, lunch.

Then you will go to the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station, (external examination) and will stay at Shushenskoye village.

You will overnight in the guesthouses of the Shushenskoye Heritage-Museum, it still keeps the customs and traditions of the Siberian village of the late 19th century, with its streets and houses, it will help you to feel the atmosphere of country life. Guesthouses were reconstituted with preservation of cultural styles of Angara river area and south of Krasnoyarsk Territory. The realities of peasant life are combined with modern comfort living.

Day 3. Mountains and Steppes Mysteries

Impressive excursion in the ethnographical museum Shushenskoye.

After breakfast you will visit the ethnographical museum Shushenskoye.

The history of the museum is inextricably linked with the name of Vladimir Lenin, who lived in Shushenskoye in exile 1897-1900. The excursion will bring you to the real Siberian village of ХIX-XX centuries. This corner of antiquity is situated on a bank of the river Shush, near its confluence with the Yenisei. There are numerous monuments of architecture on the 7 hectares: farmhouses, commercial shop, jail, tavern, about 200 wooden buildings. A lot of people go here attracted by ancient Siberian traditions, which are fully preserved in this place. A visit to a real tavern will bring everybody another surprise, you can see handicrafts and go to the shop of a merchant.

Lunch.

After a lunch the group continues its way towards Tuva across the West Sayan mountains. You will see the host of this territory - Sleeping Sayan warrior if you look attentively at the contours of the mountain. The legend says that one day the Khakassian warrior Sayan fell asleep here. He can be seen now lying on the back with folded arms.

The road to Tuva runs along the famous Ergaki nature park.

Closer to the evening the group comes to Tuva. It’s amazing but as soon as the bus crosses the border between Krasnoyarsk region and comes to Tuva even the scenery changes. It seems like you are coming to another planet and another age. There are almost no signs of civilization on the most part of Tuva territory, steppes and sharp mountains are over the hundreds kilometers.

Part 2. The Tuva Republic

Day 4. Between 2 cultures

Kyzyl city tour, the capital of the Tuva Republic.

Visit the Geographical Center of Asia. Walking along the Yenisei quay. Visit to the Buddhist temple "Thubten Shedrub Ling".

Excursion about the Scythian gold in the National museum of Tuva. Treasures, found in the burial mound Arzhaan-2, became a sensation in the archaeological world!

Dinner with traditional dishes of Tuvan cuisine (meat and dairy products). Tuvan tea ceremony and a traditional throat singing concert.

The place of this day is Kyzyl, the capital of Tuva.

This city is situated in the place where Biy-Khem (the Big Yenisei) and Kaa-Khem (the Small Yenisei) unite their waters and give a life to the great river Yenisei.

The next place of visiting is the Buddhist temple "Thubten Shedrub Ling".

After eating the group will visit the National Museum of Tuva (exhibition Scythian gold). The excursion is dedicated to the famous Arzhaan-2 burial mound, excavations of which were carried out in 2000-2003 by Hermitage specialists in cooperation with the German Archaeological Institute. The treasures found in the burial mound (more than 20 kg of gold items) became a real sensation in the archaeological world.

Visiting souvenir shops and a mineral spring in the vicinity of Kyzyl.

Dinner with traditional dishes of Tuvan cuisine.

After dinner – the performance with the traditional throat singing – khoomei.

The throat singing - a fantastical capability of the Tuva people (and some other Siberian nationalities) to emit simultaneously two or three sounds of different tone and to sustain the same sound for 25-30 seconds without taking a breath. If you close your eyes it is hard to believe that the sounds are emitted by a person and not by a musical instrument.

Day 5. Following nomads’ paths

Today tourists will cross Tuva from the east to the west, following the old nomads' paths. From the bus window you will see the stunning scenery.

Stop near the saint mount Khairykan.

Excursion to Buddhist temple Ustuu-Khuree.

Stop at the Sayan Pass, starting point of the Khakassia Republic.

Arrival to the camp in the taiga, in the Western Sayan Mountains. Overnight in wooden lodges.

After breakfast you will follow exactly the same path that ancient nomads followed crossing Tuva from the east to the west.

The route will go through the mountain pass. Before lunch there is a stop near a breathtaking mountain Khairykan - one of the most respected places in Tuva. In 1992 it was chosen by the 14th Dalai Lama to be an energetically powerful place. Once a year local shamans come here to get energy, strengthen and purify their spirits.

Lunch. Picnic is organized right on the grass. Walks, rest.

On the way tourists will see the center of Buddhist culture, a ruined temple Ustuu-Khuree. The temple was the crowning of Buddhist construction in Tuva. And it was unique not only in Tuva, but also in like the former Soviet Union. In 1930, after the adoption of a special resolution Ustuu-Khuree was closed, and in 1937 - destroyed. In 1999, the Russian government, recognizing the historic and architectural value of the unique temple Ustuu-Khuree, decided to restore it. In July 2012, during the celebration of the music festival of the same name, the Ustuu-Khuree monastery was officially opened.

Khakassia begins after the Sayan pass, at a height of 2214 meters. The mountains here are covered with fabulous cedar taiga.

You will spend the night at the Snezhny Bars camp, surrounded by mountains and a fabulous cedar taiga.

After dinner, you will meet the Snezhny Bars camp instructors – amazing people who are in love with nature, the taiga, who know all the surrounding paths, and understand the healing properties of herbs. The rest of the evening will be filled with guitar songs and heartfelt conversations until late at night. Accommodation in wooden cedar houses with stove heating.

In the evening, you'll enjoy a steam room with pine and birch brooms, an ice-cold plunge pool in a taiga river, and the taste of herbal tea.

Day 6. Day in taiga

The day in the taiga. You will go to the Bridge of Love (2 km from the camp).

You can gather mushrooms, berries, cedar nuts or herbs (depending on the season).

A real Siberian banya is waiting for you.

After lunch, the group bids farewell to the Snezhny Bars camp and heads to the heart of Khakassia – the Kazanovka village.

You'll visit the Khurtuyakh Tas stele – "stone mother," as the locals like to call it.
At dinnertime, you'll arrive in the Kyug Valley.

Full day program

After breakfast you will have a walk to the Love Suspension Bridge (2 km one way). The suspension bridge crosses the high-mountain Bolshoy On River. The river flows swiftly, overcoming rapids and riffles, through centuries-old cedar taiga.

During the walk, you can pick mushrooms, berries, cedar cones, and medicinal herbs. The taiga is so bountiful that you won't have to search for mushrooms and berries; everything grows literally underfoot. The Siberian cedar is a unique tree. The cedars you'll find yourself among have survived centuries, supporting dozens, if not hundreds, of generations of taiga inhabitants. The taiga offers a different sense of time and a feeling of unity with nature that you'll want to experience again and again.

The clean taiga air is invigorating, but the true panacea for all illnesses is the Russian banya.

After lunch, the group bids farewell to the Snezhny Bars camp and heads to the heart of Khakassia – the Kazanovka village.

The ancient land of Khakassia boasts a concentration of archaeological sites that surpasses all of Siberia, if not all of Russia. Here, right by the road, you can see rock paintings depicting sacred rituals, burial mounds and stone statues still revered by locals. Along the way, you'll visit the Khurtuyakh Tas stele – "stone mother," as the locals like to call it.

At dinnertime, you'll arrive in the Kyug Valley, which means "pleasure" in Khakass.

The tranquility of the Khakass valley offers a true spiritual respite and the fragrance of the beautiful irises will invigorate you.

The yurt camp where the group will be staying is located on the banks of the small Askiz River between the Altai and Sayan mountains.

Part 3. Khakassia

Day 7. Way to Delight

You will have a tour of the Khakassian State Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Kazanovka."

You'll be shown rock paintings dating back 3,000 to 5,000 years, taught how to copy them onto paper and you can take these rare souvenirs home.

In the evening there will be the dinner with traditional Khakassian dishes and performance of a national folklore ensemble.

After breakfast you will have a tour of the Khakassian State Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Kazanovka."

The reserve was founded 15 years ago by Leonid Eremin, a historian, archaeologist, and simply a passionate person who truly loves Khakassia. "Kazanovka" is a model for the appreciation of historical and cultural heritage, a brand sought after by scholars and tourists from all over the world.

You'll be shown rock paintings dating back 3,000 to 5,000 years, taught how to copy them onto paper, and you can take these rare souvenirs home. You'll also learn the purpose of the mysterious vertical stones protruding from the ground throughout Khakassia.

After lunch we'll continue our exploration of Khakassia's archaeology.

In the evening we'll enjoy a dinner featuring Khakassian national cuisine and a performance by a Khakassian national folklore ensemble.

Day 8. Ancient heritage

Upon arrival short Abakan city tour and then you will be able to see the exposition of stone monuments in the National museum of Khakassia.

Day 9. Valley of Kings

After breakfast departure to the Valley of Kings. The highlight of all tour will be the Great Salbyk burial mound. Its size is impressive: the circumference is 500 m, its height is more than 11 meters, the total weight of vertical stones is approximately 60 tons.

Return to Krasnoyarsk.

Full day program

After breakfast group departs to visit the Valley of Kings. There are 30 burial hills in this valley that date back to III-IV century B.C. The culmination of the entire trip will be a visit to the Great Salbyk burial mound, once built over the grave of a noble family of the Tagar tribe.

The hill's circumference is 500 m, its height is more than 11 meters. The total weight of vertical stones is approximately 60 tons.

Ethnographic tour Great Sayan Ring (10 days/9 nights, period May-September) runs along territories of Khakassia, Tuva and Krasnoyarsk region.

BOOKING AND PAYMENT

In order to buy a tour, one needs to inquire to the office of the tourist agency Sayan Ring, located on 117 Uritskogo str, office 201, 660049, Krasnoyarsk, Russia; or +7(391) 2-220-800 or e-mail info@sayanring.com, as well as to our representatives. When reserving a tour, 30% payment upfront is required, a contract has to be signed. The rest 70% of the payment should be covered in not less than 20 days before the beginning of the tour. In case one makes the reservation in 45 days before the tour one needs to cover 100% of the tour price when making the final confirmation. Payment can be both cash and bank transfer (to the tour operator's bank account).

By plane. Dmitry Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk International Airport accepts planes from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Norilsk, Barnaul, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg and many other cities. You can fly to Krasnoyarsk on Aeroflot, S7, UTair, Nordstar and other airlines. More information can be found at www.kja.aero. The airport is located in the Yemelyanovo village, 40 kilometres from Krasnoyarsk.

PARTICIPATION IN THE TOUR

Children under 12 years old are not recommended to take part in the tour, due to the intensity of the excursion program and long drives of 400-600 km per day. But the final decision is up to the parents. If you believe that your child is emotionally and physically ready for such a journey, the tour operator will not object.

WEATHER

The climate in Tuva and Khakassia is sharply continental, summers are dry, the air temperature in summer is up to + 40 C. There are almost as many sunny days as in the Crimea. In the steppe summer lasts from the second half of May to the middle of September, in the mountainous areas - from the middle of June to the end of August. July is the hottest month (average daily temperature in the steppe is about 20 C).

The Indian summer comes in the second half of September and is usually quite lasting.

Each summer month in Krasnoyarsk region is pleasant and colourful in its own way, so the choice depends only on the month that seems the best to you.

It's very beautiful in May, as the greenery is still fresh, everything is in blossom, at the same time you can see snow high up in the mountains. It's warm during the day but rather cool in the evening.
In June everything is in blossom as well and colors of nature change every week. Stable weather is characteristic of this period of time.
July is the hottest month, but sometimes there might rain for a week. The weather is stable and it's warm in the day time and at night. At the end of the month the steppe starts getting dry.
The first half of August is warm but later it starts getting colder. Nights get colder. At the end of the month there is a change of colors in nature surroundings: leaves get red and yellow. At this time of the year there is a big amount of mushrooms and berries.
September is rich with a diversity of nature colors. Red, yellow and green colors prevail. Usually, the first half of the month is warm but nights are cold. During the second half of September it can be rainy, the temperature can drop to +5C.

On the territory of museum there are 5 houses, every of them consists of 2-4 rooms, has unique design, its legends, in every house there is a fridge, kettle, tea set. Buyan Badirgy hotel

It is a new hotel for 63 people. All rooms are equipped with TV sets and fridges. There are 37 rooms, a café, a conference hall for 116 people. The hotel is situated in the surburbs of the city.

Snow leopard camp

Camp is situated in the taiga in highland district of Khakassia,1250 m above the sea level. Speciality of the camp are Russian bathes on the bank of mountain river.

During the tour the Great Sayan Ring tourists will be accommodated in wooden houses for 1-2 people with a bio-toilet and washstand. There are single, double or bunk beds, a table, a chair, a cupboard and a bedside table. Furnace heating. Please note that the camp is located deep in the taiga, electricity from the generator, so the houses are no outlets for personal use (to avoid overloading the network and fires).
There is also the main hall, upholstered furniture, fireplace, bar, billiards, a café, sports ground for playing volleyball. There is an outdoor shower as well as Russian banya (one visit free of charge for 2 nights stay).

Kyug yurt camp

The yurt camp Kyug is situated near Kuznetsky Alatau on the bank of the river Askiz, on the territory of an ethnographic nature reserve Kazanovka. Abakan city is situated 140 km far from the camp. It consists of 15 wooden yurts, a canteen. There are also shower cabins and bio toilets on the territory of the complex. There are 2 beds, a cupboard, bedside tables in yurts. At the door you can find a washstand. Electrical heating, electrical outlets. Russian traditional cuisine includes local cuisine dishes.

Asia hotel 4*

Business-hotel Asia provides variety of services featuring hospitality and all-around consideration for the present-day travellers’ needs. Those include comfortable and cozy rooms in a brand-new building in the centre of Abakan. The rooms are equipped according to modern standards and trends in the sphere of hotel industry. Room stock of the hotel is situated on 9 floors and consists of 116 rooms. Underground parking and laundry service will make nice additions to your staying far away from home. The hotel is opened in 2015.

MEALS

During all the tour you will be offered two or three meals a day. Whether it is yurt complex or picnic in the open air, you will be served with hot food, mineral water, coffee, tea. It is included in tour price. Alcohol beverages are not included in the price. We can also take into consideration the tourists' preferences in dietary or vegitarian food as far as possible. In order to have it during the tour, you should fill in the questionnarie about pecularities in food and send it to us in advance. If you won’t have informed us, you’ll get standard european meal with some additional national dishes. During the trip the menu can be changed only for an extra fee.

The national dishes o Russian and Tuvan cuisine are essential parts of the program. The traditional dishes of Russian cuisine are thought to be pancakes, rosted and backed pies, meat dumplings, pickled cucumbers, beetroot salad, cabbage soup, fruit drinks and many others. The main food of the Khakasses is meat dishes in winter and dairy dishes in summer. Bread is also highly honoured among Khakasses. Soups (ugre) and broths (mun) with boiled meat are widespread. The basis of Tuvinians' diet is meat and dairy products. Dishes that are a combination of meat and flour are especially popular.

SAFETY

Every vehicle is equipped with a first-aid kit. The drivers and guides accompanying the group have completed a first-aid training course. For the duration of the trip each tourist is provided with accident insurance including coverage for tick-borne encephalitis through the insurance company RESO; the 24-hour service center can be reached at +7 (800) 234-57-37.

TRANSPORT

Our tour is organized by comfortable minivans, minibuses (Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter) or large buses depending on the number of people in the group. In every bus there is air conditioning system, audio and video system. Each day we cover the distance of approximately 300-350 km. Every 1,5-2 hours we make stops, that's why the journey does not seem very tiresome. There are days included into the program when tourists stay at camps and do not travel by bus. Smoking in buses, stops and preserves is forbidden. Driving during the night is also forbidden because of the seasonal pasture.

GUIDE SERVICE

Throughout the tour you will be accompanied by highly qualified guides who have many years of experience on the route and have completed a mandatory first-aid training course.

TICKS AND MOSQUITOES

In Tuva there are not many mosquitoes, but there can be a lot of mosquitoes because of continuous rains, which is a rare phenomenon for Tuva. We recommend tourists to make sure their arms and legs are covered in twilight because mosquitoes are enlivened in the evening time. We provide you anti-mosquitoes repellents.

There are ticks in steppes of Tuva and Khakassia. The peak of ticks activity is from May to Middle July. In this period each tourists gets special ticks repellents. The tour price includes also the tick-borne encephalitis insurance. In any case, we recommend everyone to regularly check your cloths, open skin areas, the head. Most often ticks fasten on legs and then crawl up sucking to the upper body above the waist.

Information including meeting guide telephone and timed program is provided 7 days before the first day of the tour. You can get your insurance certificates, air and railway tickets booked in advance from your guide at the starting day.
