The theatre's history began in Minusinsk 126 years ago. It is the southernmost provincial drama theatre of Siberia.

Now all the performances of the theatre are highly estimated by Moscow critics. This fact made the theatre famous all over the Russia.

The troupe took part in the famous Russian festival "Golden mask" and won the special prize for the play "The cynics". In 2007 the theatre won a bronze statuette of VIII Fyodor Volkov international festival. The play "Where are your wings?" opened the festival.

In July 2008 the Minusinsk drama theatre created a new project - "Sakura also blossoms in Siberia" about the "Russian" Japanese. The topic of the Japanese war prisoners in Siberia is developed in cooperation with Japanese consultants. The play is based on real life events. One of the sad details is that blooming cherry bird tree reminds Sakura for the Japanese prisoners.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral

Minusinsk church complex which was founded in 1799 includes 14 temples. The most important of them is Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral in old Minusinsk. In 2003 the first stone building of the city celebrated its 200 anniversary. Spasky cathedral is the only one building which survived the difficult periods of Russian history and preserved its original look.

The wooden church was built in the center of Minusinsk historical part in 1779 and consecrated in 1781.

In 1902-1904 the famous Krasnoyarsk architect V. Sokolovsky enlarged the size of the church 3 times. The new building was made in Siberian baroque style.

The present senior priest of Minusinsk Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral is Mihail Pristaya. There is a Sunday school working in the city. Its graduates teach the Law of the Bible in Norilsk cadet center. There is also a charity canteen working on the territory of the cathedral.
