A wise Evenk said: "The purpose of your life is to keep the fire which warms your house. That was done by your ancestors and that will be done by your children. The fire has no end". The traditions of Siberian people in Krasnoyarsk region are passed by word of mouth, changing as time goes by.

The original Russian traditions are winter swimming and banya. Krasnoyarsk region is the center of aqua ice sport (swimming in cold water). Since 2005 there is an open championship of Russia "Yeniseyushka" held in the region. The lovers of winter swimming are uniting into clubs. There is "Cryophil" (Krasnoyarsk) and "Ldinka" (Kuragino) winter swimming clubs. The members of the clubs propagandize sport and healthy way of life. The holidays are celebrated in ice-holes with a cup of tea.

After icy procedures there is a traditional banya. The history of a Russian banya counts hundreds of years. Notes about banya can be seen in manuscripts of X-XIII centuries. Banya has always had curing and healthy meaning. The obligatory things of every banya are a furnace with a boiler for heating water, benches in a heating room, birch (nettle, wormwood, fir etc) broom, immersing in cold water or sponging with snow, a cup of fragrant tea with taiga herbs and honey. It is believed that in banya both body and soul become clean, every blow of a broom relieves you from diseases and bad mood.

One of the most favorite Siberian traditions is winter fishing. Ice fishing is fishing for real fans. Only a very carried away by fishing person can go on ice in winter or spring, to make holes standing on cold wind and then wait for hours. But in spite all inconveniences Siberian fishermen appear on ice every winter.

Another famous tradition of our region is "stolbism". The name of the tradition comes from the nature reserve "Stolby". "Stolbism" is a unique sport and ecological movement of Krasnoyarsk citizens, which became a city tradition. This movement began its history 150 years ago. The main idea of the tradition is to climb vertical sheer rocks - Krasnoyarsk Stolby. The essential elements of the movement are the cult of Stolby, the original technique of rock climbing, unique customs and ethics passed from one generation to another. There are different groups with their own name, leader and image.

There are many other regional sport traditions in Krasnoyarsk except for alpinism. One of such traditions is a contest of health "Everybody starts!" which is held annually in Krasnoyarsk. The head of the contest is the mayor of the city. It was organized for the first time in 1998. The organizers are Physical culture and sport department of the city's administration and the Regional social movement "Healthy world".

The north of Krasnoyarsk region is famous for Yeniseiskaya fair. Yeniseisk is a city-monument , the most ancient one in Krasnoyarsk region. It was founded in 1619 and was the main gate to Eastern Siberia for more than 150 years. Trading companies, the citizens of Yeniseisk and other cities and districts represent their crafts, vegetables, scenes of national houses, cookery and souvenirs on the fair. The August fair in Yeniseisk is also a business event. Businessmen come here to discuss their new projects and make successful deals.
