There are more than 280 registered religious organizations and more than 30 beliefs on the territory of Krasnoyarsk region. The majority of all religious beliefs were brought to the territory of the region by migrants from different parts of the world (Poland, Germany, Kalmykia, Greece etc.).

The main religion of Krasnoyarsk region and Russia is Orthodoxy. This is one of the major Christianity branches. Orthodoxy appeared in 395 when the Roman Empire was divided into two parts - the West and the East. The basis of the doctrine was defined in Byzantium in IX-XII centuries. In 1054 Orthodoxy became an independent church when Christianity was officially divided into a catholic and an orthodox churches. The basic elements of Orthodoxy are the Sacred manuscript (the Bible) and the Sacred legend. The most important dogmas are: the trinity of God, atonement of the sins, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.

The main holidays of Orthodox Church are Easter, Trinity and Christmas.

Easter is the greatest event for all orthodox Christians and the biggest orthodox holiday. It is a tradition to bake Easter cakes and to paint eggs. All people say a traditional phrase - "Christ has risen!" The service lasts till the early morning. The bells of all churches ring during the holy week of Easter.

The majority of Krasnoyarsk region people attend a church, read the Bible and know the laws of the manuscript.

There is a religious procession held in Krasnoyarsk during the Holiday of Transfiguration. The first stone of Krasnoyarsk stockaded town was installed at this day. The protector of Krasnoyarsk - the icon of God's Transfiguration is carried to the Pokrovsky cathedral during a religious procession.

A lot of different religious beliefs exist peacefully on the territory of Krasnoyarsk region for many years: Catholics, Jewish, Muslims, Georgians etc. The Siberian beliefs - shamanism and old believers have a particular history.

The native people's outlook seriously changed after the USSR broke up. The national identity has grown up and as a consequence people began to come back to their ancient traditional religious beliefs. The majority of Buryats and Tuvinians returned to shamanism and Buddhism.

The Old believers appeared on the territory of Krasnoyarsk region right after the time when dissenters were separated from the Orthodox Church in the end of XVII century. Old believers formed several teachings during the long history of their existence. Nowadays the followers live in Minusinsky, Karatuzskiy and Turuhansky regions, in Evenkia, near Sym, Kas, Angara, Biryusa, Chulym rivers.
