Krasnoyarsk region has a great number of local holidays and festivals. The majority of them are celebrated annually in Krasnoyarsk.

Manskiy festival. It usually includes performances of the bards. This traditional Krasnoyarsk region festival is called "Manskiy plyos". Every year it gathers up to 5 000 bard singing and nature lovers. During the cultural program everybody can listen to the songs of bards, buy souvenirs and crafts, take part in a special sport program.

The international museum bienalle is traditionally held in the Krasnoyarsk cultural and historical centre. The only one in the world contest of museum expositions in the Krasnoyarsk cultural-historical and museum complex on Strelka accepts museum representatives, photographers, artists, architects and designers from Russia and other countries. The success of the biennale was mainly provided by the artists, many museum exhibitions look pale when compared to the bright art projects. There are also discussions of well known museum specialists, cultural workers and managers in the sphere of culture except the contest of expositions.

The avant-garde festival "The museum night" was organized in Krasnoyarsk for the first time in 2002. It goes without saying that it is one of the brightest cultural events of the city. "The museum night" is not only traditional expositions, but also musical concerts, video shows, art shows, performances and TV bridges. The project has already grown up from the city's scale: the participants are represented not only by Krasnoyarsk people, but also by art collectives and authors from other Russian cities and other countries. "The museum night" is a new cultural tradition which involves a spectator into a game which is now a new cultural value.

The festival "Jazz on Yenisey" began its history in 1980. From that time until nowadays the festival continues and revives the jazz fame of Krasnoyarsk. It is a bright and positive cultural event which attracts attention of the jazz elite and excellent music lovers to Krasnoyarsk.  The participants of the festival are jazz bands and vocalists who do not usually play in Krasnoyarsk. They represent different genres and styles of jazz music.

The Day of a stolbist (The Day of a person who loves "Stolby" nature reserve). The famous Krasnoyarsk nature reserve "Stolby" celebrates the Day of a stolbist. It is organized by the specialists of the regional alpinism and rock climbing federations and by the administration of the nature reserve. The program includes: rock climbing competitions, the festival of the author song and a sport-ecological game "We clean the nature reserve "Stolby". This unofficial holiday is celebrated by the fans of a stolbist movement every second weekend of September beginning from 2001.

The festival of ethnic music "Sayan ring". The festival has already become an essential part of cultural life for thousands of people. Since 2003 the festival has become very popular among common people and performers not only from Krasnoyarsk region, but also from all over Russia and other countries. Every year the number of spectators increases steadily. More than 30 best bands of different nationalities take part in the contest annually. The festival "Sayan ring" gives everybody a great chance to get acquainted with the best examples of world ethnic music, immerse you in the atmosphere of unity with everything that happens around.

The 8^th of March (The women's day) is one of the most favorite holidays. All women are usually free during this day. All housekeeping duties are made by their loving men. It is a tradition to present flowers and gifts.

Maslenitsa is an ancient Slav holiday, which still remains our inheritance from the pagan culture. This holiday is a farewell to winter, a joyful waiting of the warmth and spring. As the centuries passed, there appeared the new church holidays, but maslenitsa still lives. It is met and said farewell as joyfully as many centuries ago. Each day of maslenitsa has its own meaning and name. This is a holiday-ritual with a round-dance, songs, games and burning of a self-made Winter scarecrow.

Ivan Kupala is one of the most respected and important pagan holidays in Russia. It is celebrated on July 7. The tradition of this day is to pour water on everybody everywhere. During the night before Ivan Kupala's Day people dance around the fire, swim in the river, tell fortunes and gather herbs. It is believed that a man who finds a flower of a fern will be successful, rich and healthy. And those who washed their face by morning dew will be beautiful and young.

The most important celebration of Krasnoyarsk is the Day of the city in June. It is known for a colorful carnival procession headed by the mayor of the city. It has become a tradition that a carnival procession starts from the square near the Theatre of musical comedy. Then it continues its way along Mira street to the Big concert hall, where the people choose the best costumes of the holiday.

Other traditional holidays are New Year and Orthodox Christmas celebrated on January 7.
